Life Drawing to Painting Part 3

I wasn’t completely happy with three of the paintings and decided to put another layer of paint on. A couple needed toning down -

I think I’m happy with them now.

Finished painting the first of my life drawings, both of Marina. Found it quite a challenge to avoid totally fracturing the images and maintain some unity. Limiting the palette to three pigments in the last two coats seemed to do the trick –

A Week in the Back Paddock_Final Coat

Wednesday, 9 October, 2013, 2pm.

Third and final coat finished. In some cases, particularly the portraits, a few coats more were needed.

Thanks to Paola, Ian and Karl and all the artists on the Bimblebox team. I can only hope that our artistic efforts contribute in some small way to the preservation of this rare and endangered woodland.

Second coat finished, largely progressing according to plan. The portraits are looking a little more human –

A Week in the Back Paddock - First Coat

Friday, 27 Sept, 2013, 6pm

Finished the first coat of oils on the ten drawings on Wednesday, then had to have a couple of days break, I was fair knackered. Even managed a second coat on one, that’s 11 in four days. Should be all downhill from here, now that the basics are mapped out.

Restrained colouration for the moment.

Next coats will probably be uniform glazes.

Decided to change the name on this one. That is the Great Dividing Range in the background.

Clouds need a bit of work.

The portraits look a bit scary at the moment, decided to use cold underpainting for the flesh. Reduced the chin a fraction.

Ian as a zombie. Hopefully it’ll all make sense after the next coat.

Life Drawing on Saturday again

Monday, Sept 23, 2013, 8pm

Enjoyed an afternoon on Saturday at another Life Drawing session. Brooke for the first couple of hours –

Followed by a couple of hours with Marina –
