Life Drawing April

Sunday 10 April 2017, 2pm

I was a bit distracted by other events during life drawing on Saturday and found it difficult to focus. I was drawing like a 2 year old (which is sometimes quite a high standard). Managed to pull something together in the final session, in spite of being told we had five minutes to go and I hadn’t even started the shading. Lots of aberrant marks in there, which I left as is.

Life Drawing

Thursday 9 March 2017, 2pm

Life drawing with Brooke again last Saturday at WAGS. This was a rapid sketch done on the back of the panel that was later erased –

The final half hour sketch was a bit wrong proportionally, so I brought it home and worked on it for a few hours from memory –

Roadworx

Tuesday 17 January 2017, 10am

I’ve been thinking of this series for a few months. The simple impact of a vanishing point on a flat horizon. The way a path invites the viewer into a landscape.

All of these were done with one small piece of charcoal. There’s not a lot of it left. All the panels are 600mm x 450mm. I stopped when I ran out of panels. The images are underexposed to preserve detail.

Mary Kathleen

Sunday 11 December 2016, 4.30pm

A few paintings inspired by my visit to the now defunct Mary Kathleen uranium mine, near Mt. Isa. I used a smaller brush than usual and tried to push the anarchy a bit further. Some radioactive decay may be evident.

The mine is just one of the many thousands of unrehabilitated mine sites in Australia that continue to produce and leach toxic chemicals. It was supposedly rehabilitated in 1985, but the locals think otherwise.

By way of information, a bit of signage. From Mary Kathleen –
