Vanishing Points

A series of oil and charcoal on panel paintings of the seedier side of life. Most images from Brisbane and surrounds. 'Vanishing points' refers to the dwindling resources of an overpopulated planet. Most of the images are single-point perspectives.

"Paid Your Toll?"

Drawn on an overpass near Gateway Bridge.

"Centerville"

The gorgeous burbs of Forest Lake. Title taken from a line in a Frank Zappa song.

"Big Yellow Taxi"

The carpark of Lutwych (known by my kids as "Slutwych") Shopping Centre. Got some strange looks from the punters while drawing this. Title taken from a Joni Mitchell song - 'They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot'.

"All Cards Accepted"

The also gorgeous mega shopping centre at Forest Lake. Had to get special permission to draw in here, management thought I was loony. The kid was the only person who showed any interest in my activities, so I rewarded him by including him in the drawing.

"Powerpoint"

The old fossil at Redbank. I painted this a couple of weeks before Greenpeace painted "GO SOLAR" on the left hand stack, and I added the slogan in their honour.

"Exodus"

Some oldies going for a stroll in the desert, as you do. Title taken from Bob Marley's song of the same name - 'movement of Jah People'.

"Shiny Cold Fat"

The cold stuff at Redbank Plains shopping Centre. Nobody is allowed to sit and draw in shopping centres - it's apparently classed as a terrorist activity. So this is the only work in this series done from a photograph. That's Sarah front and centre.

"Flog"

What a golf course would look like in Goomburra state forest.

"Ubermensch"

A rare appearance of Superman over the laneways of Melbourne. The world needs more superheroes, such as Clive Palmer and Gina Rinehart.

"Gleaners"

Doing the shopping in Allora. An updated version of the Millet and van Gogh paintings.

"Bitumen Boogie-Woogie"

Looking the other way from the view in "Paid Your Toll?", towards Gateway Bridge, as the second bridge nears completion.

"Inner Urban Pastoral"

The back Paddock gets loose in the laneways of Melbourne. Sold this one to Rex and Zoe.

"Turbulence"

What the world really needs is a wind turbine in every back yard. Don’t bother turning the air-con down.

"Toowoombananas"

The burbs are taking over Toowoomba.
